INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Public Schools confirmed it is investigating an incident that allegedly occurred between a staff member and a student at Arsenal Technical High School in April.
In a statement sent to FOX59/CBS4 Friday night, IPS said it is working with the Indiana Department of Children Services and IPS Police to determine what incidents allegedly occurred between staff and students last month. He said he is cooperating with the investigation.
According to IPS, the unidentified staff member has been suspended as the investigation progresses.
According to an Indianapolis Public Schools Police report obtained by FOX59/CBS4, police were dispatched to the 1500 block of East Michigan Street, the address for Arsenal Technical High School, after a student “reported an alleged assault that occurred on April 11, 2024.” Officials were reportedly summoned.

Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is aware of an incident that occurred between a student and a staff member at Arsenal Technical High School in April.
IPS Employee Relations is working with DCS and IPS Police to investigate the incident to determine what happened. The staff member involved in the incident with the student has been suspended pending an investigation. However, all actions taken regarding this incident are under review and subject to all applicable laws and her IPS Employee Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures.
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority at IPS.

The investigation was first reported by FOX59/CBS4, where former IPS teacher Julius Jonikan allegedly recorded a video of a first-grade student hitting a special needs student at George Washington Carver Montessori IPS School 87. It took place a few weeks later.
The Indiana State Department of Education, IPS, and IMPD are currently reviewing claims against Jonikan brought in a civil lawsuit filed by the family of a 7-year-old student with special needs against IPS, the school district, and administrators.
