Ireland vs Pakistan – T20 International Series (first of 3 matches)

venue: Castle Avenue, Dublin date: May 10th time: 15:00 BST

Ireland all-rounder George Dockrell says next week’s three-game home series against Pakistan will be ideal preparation for their bid for the T20 World Cup, which begins on June 5 with India vs. India in New York. talk.

The situation in Ireland may not be exactly the same as in the Big Apple or Florida, where the opening four group games of the World Cup will be played.

However, although showers are predicted for Sunday and Tuesday’s contests, the weather in Dublin looks to be manageable at least until Friday’s opener.

“It’s great cricket to start the summer, especially at home,” said Dockrell, 31, who joined Ireland as a spinner in 2010 but has since developed into a very capable middle-order batsman. . .

Following Pakistan’s three games at Clontarf, the Irish will take part in a four-match T20 tournament in the Netherlands against the hosts and Scotland before heading to America.

“We have a great schedule leading up to the World Cup and I’m really looking forward to the next month and beyond.”

Pakistan’s match will be an opportunity for Ireland to compete against Canada and the United States, following their opening match against India, and the two sides will be able to test their abilities in preparation for the final group match of the World Cup to be held in Florida on June 16th.

Dockrell said the home team had the utmost respect for their opponents, but insisted Ireland would be aiming for a “win” over the next week.

“They’re obviously a great outfit so they’re able to express themselves, play high level cricket and develop for the World Cup, but also one of the opponents that they’re going to end up playing against. You can also watch ‘It’s very informative,’ added the Dubliner.

“It’s great cricket to start our summer, especially playing at home.”

But while Ireland have plenty of competitive work left before heading to the United States, Dockrell admits excitement is already building about the looming World Cup challenge.

The Irish enjoyed great success in Australia 2022, defeating West Indies in their opening group stage game, while Scotland secured a place in the Super 12 by defeating eventual champions England.

Depending on the outcome of the match, the opening group match between Ireland and Pakistan could turn into a shootout for qualification to the next stage.

“If we go into the final game in those circumstances and have a chance to qualify, we will be in a great position,” added the all-rounder.

World Cup pitches shipped from Australia

Mr Dockrell says the prospect of products shipped from Australia being able to play cricket on American pitches is novel.

“It will be very interesting to see how it goes.

“It’s really exciting to see this type of project accepted into the ICC.” [International Cricket Council] And let’s see if we can hold such an event on the temporary ground. ”

Ireland’s opening matches against India and Canada will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, with Ireland traveling to Florida for a match against co-hosts Pakistan.
