Ivy Tech Community College has appointed Patrick Englert as the new president of its South Bend-Elkhart campus. The appointment is effective immediately. Englert has served as interim president since March and was selected after a national search process.

“Dr. Englert has made outstanding contributions to the South Bend-Elkhart campus, and we are pleased to announce his appointment as president,” Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann said in a news release. “We have the utmost confidence in President Englert’s commitment to educational excellence, student success and collaboration with area employers.”

Englert, who joined Ivy Tech in 2022 as vice chancellor for statewide student success and retention strategies, has 20 years of experience in higher education, having previously overseen key services and initiatives including academic instruction, testing and assessment, tutoring, library and wraparound services and the IvyAchieves program.

“I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome I have received from both the campus and the community, and I am honored and humbled to serve as South Bend Elkhart’s chancellor,” said Englert. “The majority of my career has been spent working in the areas of student affairs and student success, and I am excited to work with South Bend Elkhart’s vibrant faculty and staff as we continue to build a thriving campus community while creating new opportunities for all students to succeed.”

Englert serves on several committees and advisory boards, including Ivy Tech University’s “Higher Education at the Speed of Life” strategic plan.

“Patrick has a deep understanding of the flexibility and support students need to succeed in their academics and careers while balancing work, school and family responsibilities,” said Ivy Tech State University Board of Trustees member Jeremy Ragbir. “We are fortunate to have a thoughtful, student-centered leader like Chancellor Englert at a time when affordable, employer-connected education and training are more important than ever for individuals and communities to thrive.”

Prior to joining Ivy Tech, Englert held teaching and administrative positions at Bellarmine and Sullivan Universities in Louisville, Ky., and Lorus College in Dubuque, Iowa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Western Kentucky University, a master’s degree in education from the University of Louisville, and a doctorate in education and social change with a concentration in higher education from Bellarmine University.
