  • Jan Rijke, co-leader of OpenAI’s Super Alignment Group, announced his resignation on Tuesday.
  • Reike’s departure follows that of OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Satskeva.
  • Their departures come amid a series of high-profile departures from OpenAI’s safety team in recent months.

OpenAI’s leadership shakeup follows the resignation of Jan Rijke, who tweeted his resignation on Tuesday night.

Mr. Reike co-led OpenAi’s Super Alignment Group, a team focused on aligning artificial intelligence systems to human interests.

In September, he was named one of Time 100’s Most Influential People in AI.

Reike’s announcement of his departure came hours after another Super Alliance leader, Ilya Satskeva, announced his departure.

Sutskever, who was co-founder and chief scientist at OpenAI, said in a post on X (former Twitter name) that he is retiring after about 10 years. Sutskever added that he was “excited” about next steps and said he would share details “in due course.”

Rijke’s short post saying he has “resigned” is sure to fuel speculation about his and Sutskever’s next move.

“Ilya and OpenAI are parting ways. This is with great sadness to me,” OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman said in a post on X. He is one of our brains, a leader in our field, and an outstanding person.” Dear friend, his brilliance and insight are well known, but his warmth and compassion are less well known but equally important. ”

Mr. Altman did not immediately address Mr. Reich’s departure.

The news comes on the heels of several high-profile departures from OpenAI. Two executives, Diane Yun and Chris Clark, resigned several weeks ago, the Information reported. Mr. Yun was vice president of human resources and Mr. Clark was director of nonprofit and strategic initiatives. Other information suggests that OpenAI has also parted ways with researchers Leopold Aschenbrenner and Pavel Izmailov. report According to last month’s information. Both have worked on the Super Alignment team.

BI reported last week that two employees working in safety and governance have left the company in recent months.Daniel Cocotadillo left last month and William Saunders is gone. OpenAI During February.

OpenAI and Leike did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s requests for comment outside standard business hours.
