The election for the next president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly set to take place in November this year. The incumbent, Greg Barclay, has served as president for four years but is eligible to serve another term.

However, there is speculation that BCCI Secretary General Jay Shah may run for the post and, if successful, he would become the youngest person ever to hold the position.

The ICC is scheduled to hold its annual conference in Colombo in late July. CrickbazThe timeline for selecting the next president may be formally decided during the meeting.

Shah himself has not commented on whether he intends to run for office, but there are reports that he wants to bring about changes in the functioning of the ICC following the controversy over the management of the recent T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States and the Caribbean.

The publication also reports that the ICC has amended the tenure of its chairman, with the new head of cricket’s world governing body serving for three years instead of the current two, but only being able to be re-elected once instead of twice.

Shah has been in cricket administration since 2009 and was previously Joint Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association. He joined the BCCI in 2015 and was elected as its President in September 2019.

Recently, legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar praised the steps taken by the BCCI for the development of cricket in India during Shah’s tenure.

“Many are criticising Jay Shah but are focusing on his father’s political stance and not his contributions,” Gavaskar said. India Today“However, what Jay Shah has achieved – like introducing the Women’s Premier League, bringing pay parity between the women’s and men’s teams, increasing remuneration for IPL players and substantially increasing incentives – deserves praise. Unfortunately, some people are not giving him the credit for his achievements due to political considerations.”
