Shreveport, Louisiana – In this edition Jeff’s Politics CornerApparently, House Speaker Mike Johnson of Bossier County will have at least one opponent in this fall’s election.
A gentleman named Josh Mollot will be running against Johnson in District 4. Mollot, who is from near Fort Johnson, says no one in Congress is doing the right thing and is wasting money that doesn’t belong in the country. He also points out the differences between himself and Mike Johnson.
“I’m not Mike Johnson,” Mollot said. “I’m a two-term voter. It’s self-imposed. I believe there should be term limits. I don’t think anyone should serve more than two terms at the local, state or federal level.”
One of Mollot’s policy platforms is about veterans: He wants to create retirement communities for veterans in all 50 states.
It was also a big day in Baton Rouge for State Senator Thomas Pressley of Shreveport, who signed three bills into law, the most significant of which was SB276.
This bill would make it a crime to unknowingly give abortion-inducing drugs to pregnant women. This is a personal story, as it happened to Presley’s sister when she was pregnant. However, she realized what was going on and both she and her baby are doing fine now.
Pressley said this is an important bill.
“Yes,” Pressley said. “I was honored to have my sister and niece with me at the bill signing ceremony. It was a good day for Baton Rouge. Look, I think this is a step in the right direction. We’re committed to the doctor-patient relationship and protecting these drugs to get into the hands of doctors and health care providers when needed, but out of the hands of bad actors who want to harm women.”
Depending on when the bad guy tries to use the abortion pill, he could face between five and 20 years in prison.
