In May, fashion industry insiders Marie Claire The jelly sandal trend was about to explode when, in June, the retro sandal gained ultimate cred with the help of Jennifer Lawrence.
Lawrence wore all-white on Wednesday, June 26, to promote jelly sandals, specifically The Row’s twice-sold-out Mara flats. The PVC material and caged silhouette might make the shoes seem too outlandish or even wearable to some, but like the guests who first saw them on The Row’s Paris runway last fall and snapped them up as soon as they hit stores this spring, Lawrence saw an opportunity for some creative color-blocking (and perhaps a nod to a trend from her youth).

of hunger game The star wore an outfit that included $850 flats and a $50 Polo Ralph Lauren hat. She paired the colorful accessories with a white button-up shirt and pants, staples in a closet packed with essentials. Alongside these classic pieces, Jennifer Lawrence’s jelly sandals didn’t seem like a shot at millennial nostalgia; they looked more like an easy, colorful summer shoe.

Lawrence has been doubling down, and maybe even tripling, on the resurgent Y2K trend lately: Yesterday, she wore the parachute pant trend in the form of voluminous drawstring pants that fluttered in the breeze as she walked through Manhattan. (She opted for butter yellow pants, a reference to the spring color trend that she’s already worn several times this year in the form of tees and cardigans.) A few days before that, she donned a pair of fluffy parachute pants in a bright red, which she paired with red jellies from The Row.
Oversized bags that exude early 2000s energy have also made a comeback in the star’s wardrobe: Over the past few days, the common denominator in her accessory pile has been a floppy black bag. (The exact source of her roomy tote has yet to be revealed, but it’s been stocked by a host of brands, from & Other Stories to Mansur Gavriel.)

Lawrence is also a collector of It shoes, known for being a fan of The Row’s jelly sandals, mules, and mesh flats, as well as Alaïa’s sell-out mesh flats. She’s also been photographed biking around town in Tory Burch studded ballerinas, before stepping out in yellow parachute pants and suede shoes.
These heavy-metal ballerina flats caught the attention of fashion insiders when they debuted on Tory Burch’s Spring 2023 runway, then quickly sold out. Judging by the timing, Lawrence was one of the lucky few who was able to get off the waitlist and get her own pair. (They’re permanently back in stock, by the way.)

The more I stare at Lawrence and her jelly sandals, the less controversial this trend seems — and the more I’m considering buying a pair of similar sandals.
