Biden’s gaffe at the June presidential debate, growing concerns about his health and renewed support for former President Donald Trump after the assassination attempt have forced more than 20 party leaders to race against time to find an alternative, including former President Barack Obama, who is said to be Biden’s closest ally, according to some media reports.

2) This moment is crucial for Democrats, as President Trump has already successfully concluded the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday, formally accepting the presidential nomination and naming Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.

3) Until he tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, Biden was scheduled to receive the Democratic Party’s formal nomination for president in late July, followed by the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Aug. 19. But his isolation from campaign activities after his infection has given Democrats a chance to further recommend his successor.
4) On Thursday, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, who served on the committee that investigated the Capitol attack, became the latest Democrat to urge Biden to reconsider running.

8) According to a lawmaker who did not want to be named, Biden’s advisers have yet to reach a unanimous decision on his next move. Adding to his troubles are reports that more lawmakers are expected to join leaders in calling for him to drop out of the race in the coming days.
