Jon Rahm withdraws from LIV Golf Houston event due to foot injury

Jon Rahm withdrew from the LIV Golf Houston event on Saturday, putting his participation in next week’s U.S. Open in doubt.

During the first round of the tournament on Friday, Rahm was limping and in pain after swinging. LIV later reported that Rahm said he had cuts between his toes. Rahm played on and finished with a three-under 69.

Rahm’s cut apparently became infected, forcing him to withdraw midway through the second round on Saturday. He played six holes before withdrawing, remaining at three under par.

Louis Oosthuizen also withdrew from the second round at LIV Golf Houston due to a back injury.

The 29-year-old Rahm is currently ranked seventh in the Official World Golf Rankings after winning the 2023 Masters and the 2021 U.S. Open. He finished 45th at this year’s Masters and missed the cut at the PGA Championship. The LIV Golf Houston tournament is his first appearance since missing the cut and is seen as a good warm-up for next week’s U.S. Open. He is still in the top 10 in the money for the third major of the year, the 2024 U.S. Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Rahm is one of 12 LIV Golf players competing in the tournament.

He hasn’t won a LIV Golf event since signing with the league last December, but he has finished in the top 10 in each of the seven events he has played in, including two third-place finishes.

Rahm is currently second in the LIV Golf individual points standings and captains his team, Legion XIII, on tour.
