Jordan Love waited his turn, played well, and now he’s gotten his reward.
Love has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Packers, making him the highest-paid quarterback in league history, according to multiple reports.
Initial figures indicate Love’s contract is worth $220 million, averaging $55 million per year. Love is also due to receive a $75 million signing-on bonus.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Love will receive a new, fully guaranteed $155 million.
Love, 25, was the 26th overall pick in 2020. He served as Green Bay’s third quarterback as a rookie before serving as Aaron Rodgers’ backup in 2021 and 2022.
Love finally became the starter in 2023 and came on strong late in the season to lead the Packers to the postseason. Love finished 2023 completing 64% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for a passer rating of 96.1. But over his final eight games, Love completed 70% of his passes for 2,150 yards, 18 touchdowns and one interception for a rating of 112.7.
He then threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns to help Green Bay beat Dallas in the wild-card round, but lost to San Francisco in the divisional round.
Love did not participate in training camp practices until his agent and the Packers had completed contract negotiations, and now his new contract has been finalized, hours after fellow 2020 first-round draft pick Tua Tagovailoa agreed to a contract extension with the Dolphins.
