The Camden standout and South Carolina signee is starting to build an international resume in his second appearance with Team USA.
South Carolina freshman Joyce Edwards is one of 12 players named to the 2024 USA Basketball Women’s U18 National Team.
The group will represent the United States at the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s America Cup, scheduled for June 17-23 in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Edwards spent last week at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as one of 26 athletes vying for a spot on the roster.
The 6-2 forward will be making his second international appearance in U.S. basketball, following last year’s U19 World Cup, where he was the youngest member of the U.S. team. She averaged 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in seven games, helping her team win the gold medal and being named to the tournament’s All-Star 5.
Edwards, who was named the 2024 Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year, capped off her high school career at Camden by leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back state championships. In her senior season, she averaged 31.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals, 4.0 assists, and 3.3 blocks. The 6-foot-2 forward was ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2024. She is a McDonald’s All-American and was named the 2024 Morgan Wooten National Player of the Year by the organization. She also earned a spot on the Naismith All-America First Team.
Eight teams will participate in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s America Cup. FIBA has the United States tied for Group B, tipoff against Brazil on June 17th at 4:10pm ET, followed by June 18th (4:10pm ET) and June 19th. The U.S. women’s team has won 11 of the 13 U18 gold medals and has won 10 consecutive times since 2000. The top four teams will qualify for the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.
