ISLAMABAD:

Supreme Court’s Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail has urged judges to stand up for the rule of law and give decisions in accordance with the Constitution rather than personal interests

“Judges should be bold. Judges should not justify their wrongdoings or infirmities. They should stand up for the rule of law, give decisions in accordance with law rather than personal interests, prejudice or pressure,” Justice Mandokhail said on Saturday.

The SC judge was addressing a certificate–awarding ceremony at the conclusion of a one-week training for civil judges and judicial magistrates from all over Pakistan. The training was held at the Federal Judicial Academy.

Justice Mandokhail, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, also urged judges to use their boldness to ensure justice is served. He said judges must respect their oath of office and should always uphold the Constitution.

He advised judges to dedicate all their energies to effective justice service delivery to the litigant public. According to the SC judge, litigant public is a key stakeholder of the justice system and demands nothing else from judges but expeditious and fair legal resolutions.

He said continuous learning not only refines abilities but also broadens one’s understanding and outlook on the world. “The principle of lifelong learning is widely recognized in the judiciary. Judges learn every day and from every new case,” he said.

He advised the judges to gain knowledge from each other. Young judicial officers, he said, must cultivate a habit of continuous learning to maintain competence, ensure their decisions remain fair, and uphold the rule of law in this rapidly changing world. Emphasizing the need for courage and boldness, SC judge enlightened the participants about good moral behaviour.
