It’s no secret that well-planned ambient lighting can instantly transform an interior space. Setting the mood of a space and creating a cozy ambience, multi-layered lighting is one of the most sought-after elements of a successful design plan. From chandeliers to sconces, table lamps to overheads, we’re all familiar with the classic lighting setup. However, celebrities are always one step ahead in terms of trends, incorporating unique and distinctive lighting into their homes. And these fixtures don’t fall into the classic category.
In model and reality TV star Kendall Jenner’s home, a warm oval light fixture casts indirect light throughout the space. The pink-glowing wall light (third photo in the carousel below) is just one example of the celebrity lighting trends designers are favoring.
Experts are calling the lighting design movement a “new interpretation of wall sculpture” and say there’s much to admire in these unique takes on illuminating spaces.
Interior design experts say the lighting in this whimsical home makes clever use of wall space and exudes an artsy feel.Whether it’s incorporated into a gallery wall or perfect on its own in the center of a living room, Kendall’s fixtures are placed in strategic locations.
“The fixture’s elegant form pairs beautifully with the soft arch that characterizes Kendall’s space. The fixture is a statement in itself and complements the room’s simple design scheme. Warm lighting makes a home feel more welcoming and cozy, making this fixture a smart choice in many ways,” says Kendall. Homes and Gardens Editor Jennifer Ebert.
Kendall’s space proves that lighting a space is much more important than the lighting fixture you choose. Lighting is all about complementing the rest of your design scheme and creating a cozy ambiance that makes you never want to leave. When the lighting you choose is a work of art in itself, you’ll have a luxurious and chic design scheme that will impress your guests and make your home feel more personal.
“Using unexpected wall lighting both as a source of illumination and as a way to add visual interest to a wall is a really clever decorating trick,” says interior designer Cathy Kuo. “The effect is to make the wall feel intentionally filled, without overwhelming the eye.”

In another great example of this burgeoning celebrity trend, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds incorporated trellis-like lighting into the living space of their TriBeCa apartment (albeit in a much more rustic rendition). Behind the cozy gray sofa, a trellis-like sculpture with attached lightbulbs bathes the space in a warm glow. Along with a large piece of art and a wooden coffee table (complete with a jigsaw puzzle in progress), it’s the perfect finishing touch to this comfort-first living room.
“Indirect lighting like that of a trellis décor can greatly enhance the overall look and feel of a living room. This type of lighting creates a warm, inviting environment that is perfect for relaxing or social gatherings. It casts a soft, diffused light, eliminating harsh shadows and creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere.” Nina Lichtensteinfounder and lead designer of his eponymous company.
“Light bulbs hanging downwards from the trellis add an additional layer of light that highlights certain areas and features of the room, contributing to a balanced and beautiful space. With this type of indirect lighting, the Reynolds’ living room combines function and style, creating a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing sanctuary,” she continues.
