The Deputy Director of the Gardens Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has lodged a formal complaint with the New Town police station regarding the unauthorised felling of trees near the National Stadium.

According to the complaint, unidentified people illegally cut down two trees on Sir Shah Sulaiman Road, situated in front of the stadium wall, on the Muharram 9th and 10th.

“The fallen trees were left strewn across the road, resulting in damage to government property”, the complaint states.

The official described the act as a “serious violation of environmental regulations” and raised concerns about its potential link to commercial interests.

According to the complaint, a large building nearby hosts an advertising screen, allegedly owned by an individual named Javed Mara. The official suspects the trees were removed to clear the view of the screen.

The complaint also notes that CCTV cameras are installed along the road, which could aid in identifying those responsible.

In light of this, the complainant urges the authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident and register a case against those responsible.

In a separate development, the KMC earlier announced it has abolished parking fees at 32 designated locations under its direct control.

However, charged parking will remain in place across the city’s 25 towns, six cantonment areas, and other zones managed by separate authorities.
