An emotional Adam Peaty talks silver
We are now Adam Peaty He was visibly emotional in the post-race press conference.
He said he was taking some time off from the sport to do his best for his son, who is watching over him in Paris.
“In the race against Arno (Caminga) and Qin (Haiyan), I thought I could win. […] Was he caught in a fight with the two people next to him? Probably.
“I did this for my son, to show him that even if you’ve been at rock bottom for the last 14 months, you can still find a way out of it.”
“Some races are frustrating when you can’t follow your plan, but tonight I was able to execute exactly what my coach told me to do. The guy who was supposed to win won. I’m really happy for Nicolo’s win.” [Martinenghi].
“Seeing Cameron in 2012 made me smile. [van den Burgh] After that win, I made it my goal to beat him at the Commonwealth Championships. [Games]That’s what I did in 2014, but that was 10 years ago. In any case, how many of the top 8 or top 16 still have medals from 10 years ago?
“It’s really fun to put yourself at risk, because 99.9% of people wouldn’t want to put themselves in that situation, so they’re true fighters. [Niccolò] I’m so happy that you’ll be able to see that gold medal tomorrow morning.
“I did my best, that’s all.”
champion Martinenghi “That was my goal. It was a goal that was in my mind since I was eight years old. With Adam, I first saw him on TV and started racing with him when I was 16.”
“And now, eight years later, becoming an Olympic champion next to Adam, it’s like a dream come true. Before the race it was a strange situation – I wasn’t thinking about anything. During the race I just told myself to let myself go. In the last 50 metres, last 10 strokes, I saw Nick (Fink) next to me and I knew we had to fight.”
“This is what I love to do. I love racing and I live to enjoy the moment. Winning gold in front of my family, girlfriend, friends and teammates was unbelievable. It’s probably the best feeling of my life.”
