The Labor Party Overwhelming victory Friday’s UK parliamentary election saw 10 Sikh MPs elected to Parliament, the highest number ever. All 10 newly elected Sikh MPs, including five women and five men, are Labour Party members.
Of the 10, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi and Preet Kaur Gill, who have been vocal in the British Parliament on Sikhism and other issues, have been elected for three consecutive terms, while the others are in their first term.
Following his victory, Dhesi posted on X: “It’s a huge honour to be re-elected as Member of Parliament by the good people of Slough. They voted for change, unity and progress from a @UKLabour Government and I will work hard to deliver that for them. I really thank all the people for their hard work and teamwork that has made this possible.”
“It is an honour and privilege to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Edgbaston. I thank everyone for the trust they have placed in me. I will continue to serve the people and land I love,” Preet Kaur Gill also wrote to X.
Kiris Entwistle (aka Kiris Ahlewari) won over 16,000 votes to become the first female Member of Parliament for Bolton North East. Sonia Kumar is also the first female Member of Parliament for Dudley. Similarly, Harpreet Kaur Uppal won in Huddersfield to become a Member of Parliament for the first time.
Labour’s Satbir Kaur won the test constituency of Southampton by 15,945 votes, while Warinder Youth won Wolverhampton West by 8,000 votes, earning his first elected seat. Dr Jeevn Sunder and Jas Athwal won Loughborough and Ilford South respectively. Gurinder Singh Jyosan won Smethwick, becoming a first-time Member of Parliament.
