Lexi Thompson has announced that she will retire from full-time golf after the 2024 LPGA season.

Thompson, 29, made the announcement just days before the U.S. Women’s Open begins Thursday at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.

This will be Thompson’s 18th consecutive appearance in the U.S. Women’s Open. She was 12 years old in 2007 when she became the youngest golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open.

Thompson has won 15 tournaments around the world since turning professional in 2010, but her only major victory was the Chevron Championship in 2014. She has not won on the LPGA Tour since 2019.

On tour this season, Thompson has finished tied for 16th and tied for third but has missed the cut in four of her past five tournaments, including the three prior to this week’s U.S. Women’s Open.

After winning the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in 2008, Thompson competed in the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open at age 14 and then won her 11th LPGA victory two years later at the Navistar LPGA Classic.

Thompson also represented the United States at the Solheim Cup six times, winning twice in 2015 and 2017. He also was a member of the U.S. Olympic Team in 2016 and 2021.

Thompson became the seventh woman to play in a PGA Tour event last October when she played in the Shriners Children’s Open, where she shot 73 in the first round and 69 for par in the second round but missed the cut by two strokes.
