Licking Heights is pleased to announce that high school senior Richard Hill has received the first-ever student scholarship from Pataskala-based solar panel manufacturer Illuminate USA. Mr. Hill was awarded the $1,000 prize by Illuminate USA Public Relations Director Eric Heiss during a Career Xpress event held on March 19 at Licking Heights High School.
Mr. Heiss served as the closing keynote speaker for the Career Xpress conference, a day-long event aimed at connecting Heights seniors with employment and education avenues in central Ohio.
“Illuminate USA is proud to allow local students to pursue their academic dreams,” the company said in a social media post. “This scholarship program is just one of the ways we are truly honored to invest in our amazing community. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated!”
Licking Heights Assistant Superintendent Tom Holdren said this is a great example of local industry investing in the future of students.
“We are incredibly grateful to Illuminate USA for their generosity in providing our students not only with the funding they need to further their education, but also with an accessible path to employment in their backyard,” Holdren said. said. “We were thrilled to have them attend our Career Xpress event and take the time to network with students interested in future careers. We are building the skilled, ready and competitive workforce that Ohio needs.”
Hill currently attends college and career readiness courses at Heights, including AP courses, and works in the Meta-sponsored hands-on manufacturing lab (FAB Lab). He is a varsity athlete in his two sports, playing football in the fall and baseball in the spring.
