A new CBS News/YouGov poll conducted nationwide and in seven key battleground states found the presidential race remained little changed nationwide after Thursday’s debate, with 50% of voters nationwide supporting Donald Trump and 48% supporting Joe Biden — roughly the same as a CBS pre-debate poll.

Across battleground states, 51% support Trump and 48% support Biden. CBS did not provide a state-by-state breakdown of the results in battleground states, which include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The poll finds that roughly seven in ten registered voters say Biden shouldn’t run (69%, down slightly from 72% who said so in a CBS poll released over the weekend), including 41% of Democrats (down slightly from 46% who said so in the June 28-29 poll) and 78% of independents (up from 82% in a poll conducted after the last debate).

The poll finds that Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they will definitely vote in this year’s presidential election (90% of registered Republican voters nationwide said so, compared to 81% of Democrats), and CBS reports that similar divisions are evident in battleground states.

In national polls, more people say Trump is energetic (65%), effective (51%) and competent (48%) than say the same about Biden (18% energetic, 40% effective, 39% competent). Additionally, 69% believe Biden’s age was a factor in their vote, while 48% say Trump’s age was a factor.

Overall, 53% of voters said Thursday’s presidential debate made their impression of Biden worse, including 61% of independents and 28% of Democrats. Just 9% of all voters said their impression of Biden has improved, while 38% said it remained unchanged. Of Trump, 27% said it has worsened, 25% said it has improved and 48% said it remained unchanged.

Voting detailsThe poll was conducted online between June 28 and July 2 among a random sample of 2,836 voters nationwide, and has a margin of error of 2.3 percentage points for the national results and 4.4 percentage points for the battleground state results.
