This weekend, Brea Yamat and Hokuaoka Ale Gilman were crowned Miss Hawaii USA 2024 and Miss Hawaii Teen USA 2024, respectively. Both honorees joined his Living808 to share their first reactions and aspirations for governing.
Bria Yamat, a well-known name in the pageant world, finally won the title of Miss Hawaii USA on her fifth try. Her win was especially sweet considering her younger sister Kiana had also won the title two years earlier. Reflecting on how this year has been unlike any other, Breer said her experiences have honed her understanding of the unique demands of the pageant and helped her become more than just a contestant, she truly embraces what Miss Hawaii USA stands for. He said it helped him express himself as a representative.
At the other end of the age group, Hokuaoka Ale Gilman got her first taste of state-level pageantry and won. When asked about her determination to participate in the competition, Ms. Hokua expressed her desire to challenge herself and expand her horizons. Her victory in her first state competition speaks volumes about her determination and her potential.
Both title holders expressed a strong sense of responsibility and a clear vision for next year. They plan to engage with the community and use their platform to promote issues close to home. In particular, I aim to be a role model for young women by showing them that perseverance and confidence can lead to great achievements.
Looking to the future, Brea and Hokua are preparing for this summer’s national Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants in Hollywood, California. I wish them both good luck!
