Local tech companies host AI workshops across Milwaukee
Milkyway Tech Hub to hold event from June 6th to 26th
This Milwaukee-based company puts technology first and wants to teach everyone about artificial intelligence. Nadia Johnson and Christopher Perceptions, owners of MILKY WAY TECH HUB, will join us in the studio to talk about that. We’ll also talk about some events that you guys have coming up. Let’s start with what MILKY WAY TECH HUB is. Nadia. Right. MILKY WAY TECH HUB is a resource center that works to increase representation of Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities in the tech field. We’re really working hard on that. Throughout the month of June, we’re going to be raising awareness about artificial intelligence and how it’s impacting the way society is. Yes, it’s very timely. We were just talking during the commercial break that everyone is talking about AI right now. So it’s a perfect time to learn more about AI. Christopher, you guys are teaming up on an event called “No Code Clarity.” Can you explain what that is? Yes. NO CODE CLARITY is actually the name of my startup and company, but I’m hosting an event on June 11th called CODE WITH CLARITY. This event is going to teach you about what’s happening at the intersection of AI and the NO CODE tech stack. So even though less than 1% of the world can code, 99% of the people need some work. With NO CODE and AI, everyone has an advantage. Absolutely. Why do you think now is the time to step into the world of AI? Do you think it’s the time to get into coding and stuff? Well, like I said, artificial intelligence is really impacting the way our society is. Every industry is adopting artificial intelligence and it’s really important that we make sure that our community is aware of how to leverage it. We’re learning about how to access and leverage AI, be more productive, and use AI in our daily lives. So, if you’re interested in attending the event, what do you expect? What can you expect to have to do? Absolutely. So, we’re going to start at the foundational level. Nadia and I are very passionate about community and education. So whether you’re non-technical or technical, it’s perfect. From there, we’ll hold a workshop where I walk you through how to use NO CODE CLARITY, and then we’ll develop the conversation from there through networking. It’s great. You’re all ready to answer questions. I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who are looking for help, and that’s a really great way to do it. Nadia. Nadia, I heard you were invited to the White House recently. Can you explain what that was and what you did? Yeah, I was invited about a week and a half ago. Last Friday, I attended the Business Leadership Summit, which is focused on the Midwest region. It was a really inspiring summit. There, we talked about how to support small businesses within the region that represent the Milwaukee tech ecosystem. I had the opportunity to ask, “How?” How is the federal government supporting small businesses in this AI revolution? And they’re highlighting the importance of ecosystem development, and that further validates the work of the Milky Way Tech Hub and our work to host all kinds of artificial intelligence programming for youth, adults, businesses, and more throughout the month of June. Oh, that’s so exciting. It’s a great opportunity. You both are so smart. I’m in awe to be sitting here with you guys. Um, is there anything you want to share about why people should come to your events? I think it’s important to educate yourself and figure out where you belong in technology. Technology is permeating every industry, and if we don’t understand it now, we’re going to fall further and further behind. So we’re here to provide the programming that’s needed to fill the gaps that currently exist in our community and find ways to overcome those gaps. Thank you both for joining us this morning. I really appreciate you spreading the information and sharing your experiences. I’ll give you more details again. We have several events starting June 6th. The last one will be on June 26th. MILKY WAY TECH HUB is partnering with local organizations like NO CODE, CLARITY, and SOCIAL ACTS to host events and teach everyone about AI.
