The campaign for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha polls in 49 constituencies across six states and two union territories concluded on Sunday and voting is scheduled to be held on May 20. The hot spots include Raebareli and Amethi and the Lok Sabha seat of Mumbai. .
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli, Union Minister Smriti Iran from Amethi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow, RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya from Saran in Bihar, and Rohini Acharya from Hajipur in Bihar. Chirag Paswan is one of the key players at this stage.
Other prominent personalities include Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s son Karan Bhushan Singh from Kaiserganj in UP, Union Minister Piyush Goyal from north Mumbai and National Congress vice president from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir. They include Chairman Omar Abdullah.
In Maharashtra, voting will be held in North Mumbai, North West Mumbai, North East Mumbai, North Central Mumbai, South Central Mumbai, South Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Palghar, Dhule, Dindori, Nashik and Bhiwandi.
Voting will also be held in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Amethi, Raebareli, Mohanlalganj, Jalaun, Jhansi, Hamirpur, Banda, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Gonda, Barabanki, Faizabad and Kaiserganj constituencies on May 20.
In West Bengal, elections will be held in Howrah, Hooghly, Arambagh, Bangaon, Barrackpur, Srerampur and Uluberia. In Bihar, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Hajipur, Sitamarhi and Saran will go to polls in the fifth phase.
Chhatra, Kodarma and Hazaribagh seats in Jharkhand and Bargarh, Sundergarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal and Aska seats in Odisha will also be elected.
Voting in Baramulla and Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir will also be completed with this round.
According to the Election Commission, 695 candidates are participating in the fifth phase of voting.
Close to 60% of polling stations in West Bengal were found to be sensitive polling stations and security has been stepped up in the state. Baramulla also has strong security measures in place to ensure a smooth voting experience.
The Lok Sabha polls began on April 19 and four phases have been completed so far. Phases 6 and 7 will take place on May 25th and June 1st, respectively. Votes will be counted on June 4th.
