During Phase 5 polling in West Bengal, clashes also probe out at Uluberia and Salkia in Howrah district. While the nephew of a BJP local leader was attacked in Uluberia, a CPIM party office was ransacked in Salkia.

At Arambagh in Hooghly a local TMC leader was critically wounded when he was attacked with sharp weapons allegedly by the BJP. Around 25 km away in Khanakul another clash broke out between workers of the two rival parties in which a BJP panchayat leader was injured.

Till around 9 am, the overall voter turnout in the seven Lok Sabha seats – Arambagh, Bongaon, Hooghly, Barrackpore, Howrah, Uluberia and Serampore – was registered at 15.3%. While Uluberia with 17.2% registered the highest turnout, Hooghly with 14.0% recorded the lowest.

Reports of sporadic clashes poured in from multiple pockets since polling began in seven Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal where elections were being held in the fifth phase on Monday.

PM Modi says in Odisha, “Ghar-ghar se ek hi awaaj aa rahi hai – Odisha me pehali baar double engine ki sarkar’… Today the entire Odisha is thinking that they have given 25 years to the BJD govt but what they have got in these years?…”

In his address to a public gathering in Odisha’s Dhenkanal, PM Narendra Modi said, “‘Mai Gujarat se aaya hun, mai Somnath ki dharti se aaya hun, mai Jagannath ki dharti ko pranam karne aaya hun’…”

LJP (Ram Vilas) chief and candidate from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, Chirag Paswan said, “Whenever it is an important day, I come to seek blessings of Mahadev. I am his devotee…Whatever I am today is all due to his blessings…All that I have has been given by Him. There was a time when everything was snatched away from me. I would be greedy if I would want anything more after that. Whatever I got is enough.”

The overall voter turnout across 7 states and UTs during the 5th phase of the Lok Sabha election stands at 10.28 percent.

An average of 6.33 percent voter turnout was noted in Maharashtra till 9 am in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024.

Kalpana Soren, wife of former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren said, “…I would like to appeal to voters in Gandey, Koderma and Hazaribagh to step out and vote. Celebrate this festival with joy and enthusiasm…People of Gandey have blessed us earlier too. They are going to bless us again…These elections are about BJP versus the public. I am people’s candidate, they are going to give full support to INDIA Alliance…”

After casting her vote, veteran actress Shubha Khote said, “I have voted for the right candidate. I did not opt for home-voting and voted here so that people get inspired and come out and vote…”

Omar Abdullah appeaked to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, “I hope that people will use their votes. The biggest power in a democracy is the people’s voice, people’s votes. I appeal to the people of Baramulla to come out and cast their votes…I have always been saying that making claims like a huge number of tourists are coming and there is normalcy is not good. By this, we are putting tourists’ lives in danger. If protection cannot be provided to the tourists, we should refrain from making such claims….”

Union Minister and BJP candidate from Ujiarpur Lok Sabha seat Nityanand Rai said, “…NDA will win all 40 seats of Bihar. INDI alliance will not get even a single seat in Bihar… At his seat, Chirag Paswan will win with a margin of over 5 lakhs.”

Lok Sabha Election Phase 5 LIVE Updates: A section of voters have boycotted voting in Sirathu’s Upper Primary School, Hisampur Madho of Kaushambi Lok Sabha constituency. Around 1700 voters are registered for voting in polling booth 315. Locals have put up banners outside the village and announced mass boycott of voting. Not a single polling took place in the center an hour after the polling started. Angry locals say that they will wait until they get assurance as to when the road and railway bridge will be built to help accessibility of their village. They will consider voting only after getting assurance of this. At present, police and security personnel are ensuring security at the polling centre. According to the villagers, if responsible officers come to give them an assurance in this regard, then they can reconsider their decision.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged people to exercise their franchise in the fifth round of polling in the Lok Sabha election today.

“As 49 seats across 8 states and UTs go to the polls today in the 5th phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, urging all those whose constituencies are polling today to vote in record numbers. I specially call upon women voters and young voters to exercise their franchise.,” he wrote in a post on X.

From Rahul Gandhi to Smriti Irani, from Karan Bhushan Singh to Chirag Paswan, many big names will have their fate at stake during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha polls 2024. Other big names such as Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Piyush Goyal, Ujjwal Nikam, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Omar Abdullah, and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Rohini Acharya will also be looking for electoral success.

Poll preparations begin at a polling booth in Rourkela for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections to be held today. Polling will be held on 5 Lok Sabha and 35 assembly seats in the second round of simultaneous elections in Odisha.

In 2019, Rahul Gandhi lost the election in Amethi to Union Minister Smriti Irani. The party has fielded its dedicated worker, KL Sharma, from the seat to take on Smriti Irani.

Mumbai North is one of the 48 constituencies and forms a part of the Mumbai Suburban district of Maharashtra. It is a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

It comprises six assembly segments: Borivali, Dahisar, Magathane, Kandivali East, Charkop, and Malad West.

The BJP fielded Piyush Goyal against Congress’ Bhushan Patil from the Mumbai North seat that is going to polls on May 20 in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election.

Earlier on May 14, Union Minister and BJP candidate from Mumbai North, Piyush Goyal expressed confidence in the party’s victory.

“I have faith in the work done under PM Modi’s 10 years of governance. The public has made up its mind to give 400 seats to PM Modi and the Mumbai North parliamentary seat will be won with a record margin,” Goyal said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections Gopal Shetty from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Lok Sabha seat defeating Congress actor-politician Urmila Matondkar by over 4.65 lakh votes. There were 16.47 lakh eligible voters in the 2019 elections from this constituency.

Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created an installation of sand art using about 2,000 Diyas to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the message “Swagatam” at Puri Beach in Odisha on Monday.

Speaking to ANI here on Sunday, Sudarsan Pattnaik said, “PM Narendra Modi ji will visit Puri on Monday. To welcome him, I have created a sand sculpture of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath and PM Modi.”

The sand artist created the sculpture using 2,000 earthen lamps (diyas) and some flowers.

He has used about 5 tonnes of sand to create the 6-foot-high sand sculpture.

Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has encouraged people to vote in large numbers for the Lok Sabha polls.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) enlisted Khurrana to encourage voters to participate in large numbers in the elections.

The ECI’s initiative aims to maximise voter turnout and ensure citizens exercise their democratic right to choose their representatives.

Bahujan Samaj Party national president Mayawati reiterated her desire to divide Uttar Pradesh into four regions, stating that if her party came to power at the Centre, she would grant statehood to Purvanchal. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday slammed the opposition parties by likening the actions of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress with those of the demon king Ravana, and adding that Shri Ram Lalla has chosen to grant power to his devotee Prime Minister Narendra Modi and make him PM for a third consecutive term.

In a blistering attack on the opposition, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “Ravana’s spirit lives on through the SP and Congress, whose actions mirror his own.”

“Congress denied the existence of Lord Ram, and its intellectuals opposed the construction of the Ram temple in India. The SP even ordered opening of fire upon Ram devotees. Now, their general secretary dismisses the Ram temple as pointless,” he remarked.

CM Yogi added, “But whatever Ram Lalla wishes will definitely happen, and he has chosen to grant power to his devotee Modi for a third term this time.”

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made these remarks while addressing a public meeting at National Intermediate College Patti Narendrapur in support of BJP candidate Kripashankar Singh from Jaunpur.

All Lok Sabha constituencies in Mumbai are going to polls on Monday, May 20. Ahead of the big day, Ratan Tata took to X to share a special message with Mumbaikars. He urged everyone to go out to vote and exercise their constitutional right. “Monday is voting day in Mumbai. I urge all Mumbaikars to go out and vote responsibly,” Ratan Tata wrote in his post.
