With the BJP falling short of a majority in the Indian parliament, its allies in the NDA have begun intense negotiations over key central government ministries. The allies, including coalition veterans N. Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, reportedly presented their demands at an NDA meeting held yesterday. There has been no official announcement yet on what they have demanded, but frantic negotiations are reportedly underway.

Two days after the Indian Lok Sabha elections saw the BJP fail to secure a majority, its allies in the NDA have begun intense negotiations over key central government posts. But sources say the BJP is not willing to let go of key seats or roles. With the largest party nowhere near the magic number, the NDA alliance is facing a tight deadline to reach an agreement as plans move ahead to swear in the third Narendra Modi government this weekend.
Tuesday’s Lok Sabha elections left the BJP 32 seats short of a majority, making their support crucial to forming and running a new government, with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and incoming Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu emerging as kingmakers.
