NEW DELHI: As part of their campaign to boost the Congress’ chances of victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, former BJP president Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra conducted a total of 107 and 108 publicity drives, including rallies and roadshows respectively.
Rahul Gandhi campaigned for the Indian National Congress in Punjab on the final day of campaigning before the seventh polls, while Priyanka Gandhi held a roadshow in Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
As the election campaign draws to a close, party sources said Rahul Gandhi took part in 107 rallies, roadshows, networking events and major election activities.
Priyanka Gandhi too campaigned tirelessly, taking part in 108 public meetings and roadshows, the sources said, adding that she also gave over 100 media interviews, one television interview and five print interviews during her marathon campaign.
Priyanka Gandhi has been camping in Raebareli and spearheading the party’s campaign there and in neighbouring Amethi for about two weeks.
While Rahul Gandhi is running from Rae Bareli, the Indian National Congress has fielded K.L. Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, in Amethi against the BJP’s Smriti Irani.
Political observers said Priyanka Gandhi had taken on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a whirlwind election campaign, countering his attacks on the Indian National Congress party.
She campaigned in 16 states and one union territory. Priyanka Gandhi also addressed two conferences in Amethi and Rae Bareli attended by thousands of workers.
Rahul Gandhi also addressed several rallies along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav of Uttar Pradesh and Popular Front leader Tejashwi Yadav of Bihar, urging people to vote for the All India candidate.
How successful the campaign onslaught has been will only be known on June 4, when opinion poll results are due to be released.
