When vote counting begins on June 4, Varanasi will be one of the Lok Sabha constituencies that will be in the spotlight across the country. The incumbent prime minister himself is contesting from this seat, but strange developments have taken place over the past week.

First, YouTuber Shyam Rangeela’s nomination was rejected, after which he issued a video message suggesting that he had not been asked to be removed by district judge S. Rajalingam.

However, the DM’s office replied to his video and said, “Your candidacy papers have been scrutinized in your presence and you have been informed of the deficiencies. Your nomination documents have been canceled because you did not submit them.” Vow/affirmation…”

Now, this is a report by scroll revealed that 33 of the 41 people who had filed their candidatures to contest elections from Varanasi city were rejected.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, there were a total of 42 candidates for the Varanasi seat, which came down to 26 in 2019. This time only seven candidates were accepted.

Harpreet Singh, one of those whose nomination papers were rejected, told the publication that his repeated requests for the reinstated police officer to take the oath were ignored.

“I requested the returning officer three times and the returning cadet three times,” Singh said, adding, “But they kept ignoring me.”

“This is not an election,” another similar person, who declined to be named, told the publication, “We are given two rations and asked to shut up and be happy in this country. We are not free people.”

A third person, who said he went to the DM’s office to collect the treasury, told Scroll that there was a long queue at the magistrate’s office, most of them from the Bharatiya Janata Party. The team was made up of staff members who were said to be “slowing down the line by letting their friends slip into the line.” The whole process was excruciating. ”

The publication also said that after PM Modi filed his nomination on May 14, a number of other prospective candidates thronged the DM’s office, many of whom are said to be Bharatiya Janata Party workers. claims.

DH has not independently verified these claims.
