2024 Lok Sabha Elections Live: The sixth phase of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections was held on May 25 and the country is now gearing up for the seventh and final phase of elections. General elections for the seventh phase will be held on June 1 and the results will be declared on June 4. With temperatures soaring in northern states, campaigning for the final phase of elections is intensifying. Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav are scheduled to address a joint rally in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home constituency today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, which goes to polls on June 1. He is up against Ajay Rai of the Indian National Congress and Atal Jamal Lari of the Indian National Party. Varanasi is a BJP stronghold and Modi won from there in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections.
Rai, the Uttar Pradesh Congress leader, had also faced off against the prime minister in Varanasi in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections but finished third both times. This will be Ajay Rai’s third time taking on Modi in the Lok Sabha elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is close to 400 seats after the sixth election and expressed confidence that it would surpass that number after the seventh election.
