2024 House Elections Live: India is preparing for its sixth general election scheduled for this Saturday, May 25th. The country’s capital, which boasts seven seats, will also head to the polls for a sixth term.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), a total of 889 candidates from eight states and union territories (UTs) will be fielding candidates in this phase of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held on May 25.
Five of the seven phases have already been completed, with voter turnout at around 62.2 per cent, slightly lower than the 2019 polls in which 64.16 per cent of the 51 assembly seats in seven states went to vote.
Latest Election Highlights for Phase 6
– Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to polls in Haryana and Punjab, starting with his first rally in Patiala today. He is scheduled to address rallies in Gurdaspur and Jalandhar on Friday. Voting in 13 seats in Punjab is scheduled for June 1.
– Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal on Tuesday announced that farmers will hoist black flags against Prime Minister Modi during poll activities in Punjab. The decision was announced at a rally organised by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha at Jagraon in Ludhiana district.
– In preparation for the 6th round of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections, train operations on all Delhi Metro lines will begin at 4 am, making the service available to campaign workers. Trains will run every 30 minutes on all routes till 6 am, after which normal metro services will resume for the rest of the day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed on Wednesday.
– Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has denied claims made by Delhi Minister Atishi who accused the Aam Aadmi Party of cutting off water supply to the national capital as part of a fresh conspiracy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the elections on May 25. Saini denied the allegations and accused the AAP of spreading falsehoods.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Live: Delhi gearing up for May 25 polls in 429 ‘highly sensitive’ centres
Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Live: DCP Election Officer Sanjay Sehrawat explains preparations in the national capital for the upcoming polls in the run-up to the general elections.
Delhi Police has completed preparations for the elections on May 25. A total of 2,628 polling centres will be operational, of which 429 will be identified as highly sensitive polling centres.
– More than 33,000 Delhi Police personnel will be deployed at polling stations, joined by 51 paramilitary forces for additional security. In addition, 17,500 home guards from Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh will also be deployed.
– Drones will be used in sensitive areas to keep a watch on illegal activities. Extensive CCTV cameras have been installed along state borders to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.
As elections will be held simultaneously in Delhi and Haryana, security checks at the Delhi-Haryana border will be supervised by the cooperation of Delhi Police and Haryana Police.
