BHUBANESWAR: If the Indian National Congress comes to power in Odisha and at the Centre, every poor family in the state will get financial assistance of at least Rs 26,000 per month each, a party leader said on Tuesday.

At a press conference here, Indian National Congress leader Ajoy Kumar said if his party forms government in Odisha, it would provide assistance of 2,000 rupees to poor women and pensions of 2,000 rupees to farmers, widows, disabled and elderly people under the Guru Lakshmi Yojana.

Similarly, the Indian National Congress has promised to provide up to 200 units of electricity free of charge to residents of Odisha, which amounts to around Rs 2,000 per month.

He said the MSP of rice will be increased to Rs 3,000 per quintal, while LPG cylinders will be offered at Rs 500.

Kumar, the Congress leader in charge of Odisha, said that if the Congress party came to power in the state, each poor family in the state would be given about 10,000 rupees per month.

Similarly, if the Indian Union is elected as the central government, the central government will transfer at least Rs 16,000 to the account of each poor family every month, he said.

He further said that if the Indian National Congress forms the government in Odisha, the poor will be given free medical treatment up to Rs 2.5 lakh per year.

In the past, the Congress had created jobs under MGNREGA and introduced the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Meanwhile, he alleged that both the Naveen Patnaik government in Odisha and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre were “copying the plans of the Indian National Congress government and deceiving the people”.

Kumar appealed to voters to vote against the BJD and the BJP.
