All 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana will go to polls on May 13 in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

In 2019, the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) won 9 out of 17 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won four seats and three Assembly seats, while Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM won the only seat in Hyderabad.

The May 13th contest will be a hot topic for a variety of reasons. One is a revived parliament, which will hope to repeat its victory in the November 2023 parliamentary elections. The Congress won 64 of the 119 assembly seats in Telangana, ending the 10-year rule of the K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS. Second, the BRS side is fighting a battle for survival after suffering repeated setbacks after its defeat in the 2023 parliamentary elections.

Third, Telangana is a key state for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Southern Mission and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s 400-seat target in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Telangana, on the other hand, is the only southern state apart from Karnataka supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The saffron party, which won the seat in 2019, also increased its vote share to about 14 percent.

love triangle contest

The National Congress party is counting on six guarantees it promised in the run-up to last year’s parliamentary elections. Four of these guarantees have been satisfied. The party also invited leaders from other parties to increase its number of seats from three in 2019. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who is leading the assembly election campaign, has vowed to take the party to double digits in seats.

Former chief minister and BRS chief KCR campaigned in a bus for 17 assembly seats in the state. KCR was banned from campaigning for two days by the Election Commission of India for using offensive language.

The BJP is relying on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who campaigned extensively in Telangana. In fact, the Prime Minister had addressed a rally in Telangana on May 10, a day before the last day of campaigning for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections. The Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah have already attended over six meetings in the state.

Therefore, a high-stakes triangular battle is scheduled in Telangana on May 13 between the BJP, Congress and BRS. The 17 seats in Telangana include Hyderabad, Adilabad, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Chebela and Mahbubnagar. , Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Bhuvanagiri, Warangal, Mahbubabad, Khammam, Zahirabad.

major contests

The major constituencies in Telangana are Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Karim Nagar and Chevela constituencies.

In Hyderabad, the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Madhavi Lata, a classical dancer and entrepreneur, against incumbent MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. Hyderabad is AIMIM’s stronghold and Mr Owaisi has held the seat for four terms since 2004. Before 2014, Owaisi’s father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, represented Hyderabad in Parliament for six terms.

In Secunderabad, the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded sitting MP and union minister G. Kishan Reddy for the third time. Reddy is contesting against BRS’s T Padma Rao Goud and Congress’ Dhanam Nagender.

In Karimnagar, former Bharatiya Janata Party chief minister and sitting MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar is contesting against BRS’s B Vinod Kumar. In the 2019 elections, Mr. Bandi won the Karimnagar seat with a margin of nearly 90,000 votes. The Congress has fielded Velichara Rajender Rao from the seat.

BJP’s richest candidate

In Chevella, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, the richest Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in the country so far, will be defeated by Member of Parliament (MP) G. Ranjith Reddy and BRS’s Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj. I am confronting Mr. Konda Reddy won the seat as a BRS candidate in 2014 but lost as a Congress candidate in 2019.

As many as 96 Lok Sabha constituencies across 10 states and union territories are scheduled to go to polls in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 13. Excluding Telangana, there are 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 11 seats in Maharashtra, 8 seats in West Bengal, 8 seats in Madhya Pradesh, and 5 seats in Bihar. , four seats each in Jharkhand and Odisha, and one seat in Jammu and Kashmir will also go to polls on May 13.
