The five-phase parliamentary polls that began on April 19 have concluded. In May, in over 100 constituencies across 10 states and union territories: Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chandigarh. Voting will take place on the 25th and June 1st.
“Two phases of voting are left. SKM has clearly said that people should vote for the candidate who can defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is not a Bharatiya Janata Party government but a capitalist group’s government. This group is occupying the country and fighting. Nobody supports them,” Tikait said in a social media post.
“This is a direct election between the people of India and this gang. The people are fighting this election. There is no need to worry. Just vote for the candidate who you think can defeat the BJP in your area,” the farmer leader said.
He noted that there were instances in which election-related discussions about some candidates were mistakenly conducted over the phone, “misleading” voters.
“We do not have personal issues with anyone in particular, this is the SKM’s assertion.Whether it is Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh or any other part of the country, the morcha We are giving a guideline to vote for the candidate who can defeat the BJP candidate,” Tikait said.
He claimed that the SKM is apolitical and has no involvement in elections.
Tikait said people were selecting the NOTA (not either) option on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to express their anger against the government policies.
“But pressing NOTA will directly help the government. Don’t press NOTA and vote for your candidate. Don’t be discouraged. This is the people’s election and whatever the outcome may be, people are fighting this election. We need to be ready for the fight,” he said.
Tikait said that irrespective of which party comes to power, the SKM will continue to work on issues like land acquisition, farm loan waiver, legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for crops, implementation of Swaminathan Committee recommendations, tribal rights, forest clearance, education and health facilities.
“Just as a calm sea does not reflect its depth, people should fight this election calmly. Calmness does not mean that people’s anger has subsided. Be patient and remain hopeful. The people will win,” he added.
