Lok Sabha Elections: 904 candidates in fray in seventh phase; as many as 328 candidates from Punjab contesting in 13 seats

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced that 904 candidates are standing in the seventh phase of India’s Lok Sabha elections.

The seventh and final phase of India’s Lok Sabha elections will see voting take place on June 1 in 57 seats across eight states and union territories.

Voting will take place in the states of Bihar, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The EC received 2,105 nominations for 57 seats in the final stage. After reviewing all nominations submitted, we found that 954 nominations were valid. However, some candidates have withdrawn, leaving 904 candidates in the race.

328 candidates from Punjab and 144 from Uttar Pradesh are contesting 13 seats each, 134 candidates from Bihar for eight seats, six from Odisha, 66 for six seats, 52 candidates from Jharkhand for three seats, 37 candidates from Himachal Pradesh for four seats and 19 candidates from Chandigarh for one seat.

Punjab had filed as many as 598 candidates from 13 assembly constituencies, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 495 candidates from 13 PCs, which were scrutinized and withdrawn.

Votes will be counted on June 4th.
