The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday rejected the affidavit of comedian Shyam Rangeela, who ran as an independent candidate from Varanasi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the poll committee’s website, the documents of 36 out of 55 candidates were rejected, while the affidavits of 15 candidates, including Prime Minister Modi and Congress’s Ajay Rai, were not accepted. Ta.
Shyam Rangeela had filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Varanasi on Tuesday. The comedian’s impersonator also claimed that he was prevented from submitting nomination papers.
Rangeela told reporters that despite efforts to submit nominations since May 10, PM Modi did not enter the district magistrate’s office on the day he submitted nomination papers. He said that he was refused.
Ranjeela, once a loyalist of Prime Minister Modi, had earlier said that he decided to contest elections from Varanasi as the situation has changed over the past decade.
“In 2014, I was a supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I shared a lot of videos supporting the Prime Minister. Videos against Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal were also shared. If I look at them, I will be 70 in the future. I can say that I will vote only for the Bharatiya Janata Party during the year. But things have changed in the last 10 years. I will now contest the Chief Minister in the Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate,” he announced. did.
Rangeela rose to fame by impersonating Prime Minister Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi on comedy shows.
Varanasi is scheduled to go to polls in the seventh and final phase on June 1.
