PATNA: The sixth Lok Sabha elections in eight constituencies across the state concluded peacefully on Saturday with provisional voter turnout at 55.45 per cent, down 3.02 per cent as compared to the 2019 general elections, said HR Srinivasa, chairman of the State Election Commission. Till 6 pm, when polls were scheduled to close, Paschim Champaran constituency recorded the highest voter turnout at 59.75 per cent, followed by Vaishali 58.50, Valmikinagar 58.25, Purvi Champaran 57.30, Sheohar 56.30, Siwan 52.50, Maharajganj 51.27 and Gopalganj (SC) 50.70. The total voter turnout in these five Lok Sabha constituencies for the 2019 general elections was 58.47 per cent, the commission said. Deputy Chief Minister Jitendra Singh Gangwar told TOI that around 61,800 security personnel and 20,800 home guards have been deployed in the eight Lok Sabha seats to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.
