Voter turnout in three Kashmir constituencies — Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri — was 50.86 percent, 30 percentage points higher than the 19.16 percent turnout in 2019. This was the highest in the last three decades, according to the Election Commission.
The Election Commission announced on Monday that voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir’s five Assembly seats, for which voting ended on May 25, was 58.46 percent, more than 13 percentage points higher than the 2019 Lok Sabha election turnout (44.37 percent).
“In a major step forward for India’s electoral system, Jammu and Kashmir recorded its highest voter turnout in the last 35 years. The overall voter turnout in polling stations for five Parliamentary (Lower House) seats was 58.46 per cent…This strong turnout is a testimony to the vibrant democratic spirit and civic participation of the people of the region,” the Election Commission said in a statement.

The voter turnout in three Kashmir constituencies — Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag Rajouri — was 50.86 percent, 30 percentage points higher than the 19.16 percent turnout in 2019. This was the highest in the last three decades, according to the Election Commission.
“This achievement builds on a credible interweaving of a 25% increase in the number of candidates since 2019, C-vigil complaints indicating increased citizen engagement and the Suvidha portal showing 2,455 rally requests, reflecting a steady shift back in the electoral and campaigning arena from hesitancy to fuller participation…This active participation is highly positive for the upcoming state assembly elections to ensure the democratic process continues to thrive in the Union Territory,” Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said.
The voter turnout in Udhampur and Jammu constituencies was 68.27% and 72.22% respectively.
