Mackinac Island — voted No. 1 by USA Today “The best summer destination” It was the only Mackinac Island to be named to the paper’s annual Top 10 Readers Poll.

This is the second year in a row that Michigan has received national recognition from USA Today.

“Achieving this top honor for the second year in a row proves how special Mackinac Island is to so many people.” said Mackinac Island Mayor Margaret Dowd. “We want to thank the island community for their unwavering dedication to providing an unforgettable experience for our guests and extend our thanks to all those at home and abroad who voted for Mackinac Island.”

USA Today describes the island as a place people visit. “Take a horse-drawn carriage ride along car-free roads, watch (and sample) fudge being made, and tour historic Fort Mackinac.”

As many Michiganders already know, the island is also home to Mackinac Island State Park, where visitors can often be seen hiking, biking, kayaking, and sightseeing. USA Today singles out the beauty of His Rock, especially the limestone arches, as an attraction that draws tourists.

We look forward to welcoming guests this summer to experience all the island has to offer.”

Mackinac Island was voted the #1 Best Island in the Continental United States by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine for 2022. Mackinac Island has also received awards from Conde Nast Traveler, TripAdvisor and Expedia.
