MUMBAI: Each of the three-party Mahayuti constituents will conduct their own polls in 288 constituencies in the state, a Mahayuti leader said in an informal conversation with reporters in the city on Monday. “This is being done to know the electoral strength of each party in each seat. These survey results will be compared and decide the seat allocation for the upcoming state elections,” he said. “Electoral strength will be the criterion,” he said, adding that the Mahayuti will contest the elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Another leader, who is also a Congress leader, said there may be some shuffling of seats to ensure Mahayuti victory. “At present, there are nearly 200 sitting state assembly members. Even if the incumbents win their seats, there are 88 more seats where a decision has to be taken,” the Congress leader said. The NCP faction, which won one LS seat, is confident of winning a sizeable number of assembly seats. “Had Ahmednagar and Madha seats been given to us, we would have won these. Nilesh Ranke was keen to contest Ahmednagar seat and informed us that the guardian minister had caused trouble for his associates by closing down sand mining and crushing units. He either ran for the seat for himself or his wife but we could not win the seat,” the party leader said. After the BJP refused to give up the seat, Ranke moved to the NCP (SP). Ranke won. The NCP leader said he was not worried if the MP chose to leave the party and said there were other candidates available for the post.
