Police officials announced Tuesday that they have arrested a man who they suspect of placing an improvised explosive device at a San Jose business last week.

According to San Jose Police, officers responded to a report of a bomb threat at the store in the 1300 block of Ridder Park Drive, just north of E. Brokaw Road in North San Jose, at 10:06 a.m. on July 3. The suspect made the threat and told police he had placed the explosives behind the store.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a suspicious device that appeared to be an improvised explosive. The police Bomb Disposal Unit and Tactical Unit responded to the scene and determined that the device was an unassembled but capable device. Police say the Bomb Disposal Unit made the device safe and searched the scene but found no other explosives.

Felix Arnaz

San Jose Police Department

Investigators identified the suspect as Felix Arnaz, 56, of San Jose. Later that day, officers found Arnaz in a vehicle in the area of Ruby Avenue and Aborn Road in East San Jose and arrested him.

As a precaution, nearby shops were evacuated while a bomb disposal squad searched his vehicle for additional explosives, but none were found.

Arnaz was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on multiple charges related to possession of a destructive device.

Anyone with information regarding this or similar incidents is asked to contact Detective Madera #4857 of the San Jose Police Department’s Violence Unit by email at 4857@sanjoseca.gov or at 408-277-4161.
