With atrocities against minorities being exposed frequently in Pakistan, an Instagram video shows a Marathi family selling vada pav in Karachi. The viral video portraying a different side of the country has garnered positive responses on social media.

This video, which shows a Marathi family in Pakistan, was captioned by Instagram influencer Dheeraj Mandan, who said, “Pakistan is full of different cultures.Introducing a Marathi family from Pakistan. The full video will be published on our YouTube channel,” he shared with the caption.

There are approximately 100 Marathi-speaking families living in Karachi, Pakistan, and the area’s population is approximately 500 people.

The 160-year-old Narayan Jagannath High School in Karachi is a testimony to Pakistan’s diverse cultures and roots. Narayan Jagannath High School was the first government school established in Pakistan’s Sindh province.

A video widely shared on social media shows a family from the Indian state of Maharashtra who migrated to Pakistan and decided to bring some of the flavors of their homeland to their new community. Vada pav, a spicy potato bun, is popular with locals, showing that food can bridge cultural divides.

The video sparked mixed reactions online. Some netizens celebrated the introduction of multiculturalism and praised the family for sharing their beloved Indian snacks with their Pakistani neighbors.

There were many comments such as “Food knows no borders” and “A beautiful fusion of cultures,” with many praising the unique fusion of traditional Indian and Pakistani cuisine.

A very proud Maratha family in kurta payjama….Paridhan Parivesh or Astha ka ghara got diya or Reel bana raha hai ki khush hai bhai… Dekh ke lag raha hai jahan kapde pene ki azadi nee hai waha khush lehna seekh ge ho… Khush nee ho,” an Instagram user commented on the post.

Another user wrote, “As an Upwari, happy to meet my Maharastrian brothers in Karachi.”

“As a resident of Karachi, it feels great to see this. Karachi is the most culturally and religiously diverse city in Pakistan. Hindus, Christians and Parsis have played a major role in Karachi’s history,” was the most excited comment.

Despite the differences, the ‘Wada Pav’ project of a Marathi family in Pakistan has caught the attention of people on both sides of the border. The project sparked a debate about the wider impact of cultural exchange and the role of food in bringing together different communities.

In a region often plagued by political tensions, this story of culinary intersections is a reminder of everyday relationships across borders. Whether seen as a celebration of diversity or controversial, a Marathi family’s attempt to sell vada pav in Pakistan highlights the role food plays in promoting understanding and appreciation of different cultures. shows the role.
