CHICAGO — Thursday’s game between the Cubs and Marlins, scheduled to open the North Siders’ homestand at Wrigley Field, has been proactively postponed due to the incoming storm.
Thursday’s game will be the second half of Saturday’s split doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 2:20 p.m. ET/1:20 p.m. CT and 7:40 p.m. ET/6:40 p.m. CT. has been done. Gates for the second game of the twinbill will open approximately one hour before the start of the game (subject to change depending on the conclusion of the first game).
Right-hander Jameson Taillon, who was scheduled to start Thursday after returning from the injured list, will start Friday. The Cubs are scheduled to start Shota Imanaga and Javier Assad in Saturday’s doubleheader, but the order has not been determined. Both teams have the ability to use a 27th player in a twin bill. Kyle Hendricks will start Sunday’s final game as scheduled.
Marlins manager Skip Shoemaker said Thursday’s candidate, AJ Puk, will start Friday’s game. Jesus Luzardo is expected to start in one of Saturday’s games (which one is TBA). The starters for Saturday’s other game are also expected to be announced.
The rainy cancellation came after the Cubs finished a 10-day road trip that included stops in San Diego, Seattle and Arizona with a record of 5 wins and 4 losses, putting a strain on the team’s pitching staff. Taillon’s return to the rotation should help begin the process of restoring some order to a starting staff that has weathered a tough start to the year with the loss of left-hander Justin Steele (out until May with a left hamstring issue). Fans planning to attend Saturday’s doubleheader will need to purchase separate tickets for each game. Fans attending Game 1 will be required to leave the stadium after the game. Mobile tickets via the MLB Ballpark app will be automatically updated with additional game information. No ticket exchange required.
