“A passionate traveller with a special curiosity for discovering different cultures”
home town: Ribeirão Preto, Brazil
Fun fact about yourself: The second word I learn in every country I visit is “cheers” – the first is “thank you” to express gratitude for the beer.
Faculty/Major: USP (University of Sao Paulo), Business Management
Most recent employer and job title: Senior Vendor Manager at Amazon Brazil
What has been your greatest career achievement so far?
I launched the smart home category on Amazon Brazil and within a year, our flagship smart light bulb became our best-selling product during Amazon Brazil Prime Day, selling thousands of units. I’m proud of our ability to build a category from the ground up, demonstrate the value of a new product to customers, and deliver great results for Amazon Brazil.
When you think of CEIBS, what are the first words that come to mind?
Family. Each MBA class creates its own culture through a brainstorming process about what is important to each of us and what we want to leave as our group legacy. The culture of my class is family. debtThe future is full of braVery much, CharisMaa,resILicense, Collaborationand othersAbortion and Diversityyes.
What are one or two key aspects of the program that led you to choose CEIBS and why were they so important to you?
I had the opportunity to visit CEIBS before accepting the offer, but having a truly international environment and welcoming people was key to my decision, as I was planning to move from Brazil to China to gain this experience and having a safe place was important to me.
The second reason for choosing CEIBS is the China Discovery module, where I visit different business centres in China such as Shenzhen, Ningbo and Changsha, visit local companies and take in-depth, practical courses on the region’s economic development, which is perfectly aligned with my MBA goal of understanding how business is done in China.
Which course, club, activity or experience at CEIBS has interested you the most and why?
As president of the Women’s Leadership Club, I am excited by the opportunity to meet powerful women and be inspired by their stories. Women still face significant challenges in the workplace, and I am delighted to be part of this discussion half a world away (for me) at a business school that plays a role in developing and educating the next generation of leaders.
What have you read, watched or listened to recently that you would highly recommend to other CEIBS MBA aspirants?
I recently studied a case study on the EV (electric vehicle) industry, and as I am not very familiar with this industry, a few points came to mind. The success of the industry depends on improving batteries, and there are over 300,000 registered battery-related patents, showing the complexity of this field. China is leading this business, with BYD surpassing Tesla in sales and launching various EV brands focusing on different features and positioning. Elon Musk expressed concern about Chinese manufacturers in Tesla’s last post-earnings call. I recommend reading about this subject, as this could be the center of the next tension between China and the United States.
what What are two things that have surprised you so far about your studies at CEIBS – one academic and one non-academic?
When we did a case study in my marketing class, we learned about the power of KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) as a channel to sell products. I was impressed by the figure that a one-hour livestream sold 1 million units of skincare products. When I worked for Amazon Brazil, we tried to leverage livestreaming but only sold 100 units. This is an example of the huge difference between customer behavior and business success models.
For me, a non-academic, the power of China to deliver anything at any time remains impressive. Food and supermarket deliveries are very common in Brazil, but I will never forget that the day I took my first exam in microeconomics, I didn’t have a calculator. I was desperate because the exam had a limited time and the calculations were going to take a long time. The person sitting next to me, a Chinese person, looked at me and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll order it for you, it will arrive before lunch.” And that was the first moment that the Chinese delivery system saved my life.
What advice would you give to applicants seeking admission to the CEIBS MBA program?
Your GMAT score is a crucial part of the application process, so we recommend preparing for the test in advance, especially for the English portion, as the MBA is entirely in English. But the story you want to tell, and CEIBS’s role in it, is perhaps even more important. So prepare your motivation letter carefully, writing personally and passionately about what motivates you. This will be the driving force behind your experience at CEIBS.
