PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday accused the Jammu and Kashmir government of trying to “fix” the Lok Sabha elections by “selectively targeting and harassing” the party and its supporters. .
Addressing a press conference at the local PDP headquarters, Mufti also said that under Article 144, the authorities have announced that in Pulwama, which is part of the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat where voting will take place on Monday, from 6.30 pm on Saturday. It claimed to have imposed a 48-hour limit.
“Unprecedented Section 144 has been imposed in Pulwama district from 6:30 pm today. Restrictions have been imposed in places where elections are held and never before have they been imposed till the end of elections. ” she said. Please don’t come vote.
“Preparations are underway to rig the elections.” The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir also claimed that party activists who had been organizing rallies were detained before the vote.
“This is not just limited to Pulwama. A few days ago, there was an attack in Surankot (Poonch district of Jammu). After that, 50-60 workers were detained and a strange atmosphere was created. “If the Election Commission of India has to repeat the 1987 elections, why is this election drama happening?” Mufti said. “If they have to create an Ikhwan (government armed group) or an Ikhwan party that they support, they should say so,” she added.
Mufti said the government was yet to openly support the proxy as it was waiting for elections to be decided in two seats, Srinagar and Baramulla.
“Then they will announce their support in Rajouri-Ponch (part of Anantnag Rajouri seat). It is solely because of their party, the party of Ikhwans in suits, that the elections were postponed there. They have created a political Ikhwan that fully supports them, and the entire government machinery supports them,” Mufti said.
“Government officials are under pressure. PDP workers are being selectively targeted and harassed,” she added. The PDP leader asked Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to stop the “election drama”.
“If you want to rig elections, just tell us, we will back out.” The mufti claimed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has put several youths behind bars.
“It is your responsibility to send a message to New Delhi that while you keep our young people in prison, we will send them to Parliament as our representatives,” she said to the people of Kashmir. He called on voters to vote in favor of his party. She further said that Mufti was targeting her PDP because she was “perturbed” by the popularity of her own party.
To a question on Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on PoK, Mufti said the government should first address the issues in this part of Kashmir. “Let me first talk to the people here. There are 22 billion Muslims in our country and the Bharatiya Janata Party calls them infiltrators and termites,” Mufti said.
