Melbourne wing restaurant closes after 34 years in business

Frankie’s Wings & Things opened 34 years ago and quickly became a favorite of locals and tourists alike.

A long-standing Melbourne store will close its doors for good at the end of this month. They made the announcement on social media on Friday.

“Since August 1990, we’ve been providing the Melbourne area with their favorite chicken wings,” the post reads. “It is with great regret that we will be closing our doors for the final time on Friday, May 31st.”cent”

Why is Frankie’s Wings & Things in Melbourne closing?

General Manager Dolly Powers has worked at the restaurant since it opened.

She said the owners of the family-run business decided it was time to take the next step.

“My lease was up and I thought it was time and my whole family decided to retire,” Powers told Florida Today, adding that he would also be retiring. “34 years is a long time.”

The restaurant is not normally open on Mondays, but will be open on May 20 and 27 to give customers a special chance to come and say goodbye.

“We are grateful to them,” Powers said. “We meet a lot of the same people all the time, so we want to thank them for their loyalty. We watch children grow up, couples get married and have children. These people are devastated. We’ve had such loyal support.”

Frankie’s Wings & Things’ third Brevard restaurant closes this week

It’s been a tough week for Brevard’s dining scene.

Earlier this week, Wagon Wheel Pizza in Palm Bay announced it would close on Saturday after 40 years in business. Owner Keith Ellwood also plans to close the store to enjoy his retirement.

Villa Palma at the Village is another restaurant that announced it would close. An authentic Italian restaurant in Cocoa Village has decided to close its doors after failing to renew its lease.

The family-owned business also has another restaurant, Villa Palma Ristorante, which will remain open.
