PHILADELPHIA — After the Mets lost their third straight game to the Phillies on Wednesday, manager Carlos Mendoza walked around the postgame clubhouse, talking to everyone on the roster individually and in small groups. Mendoza disliked the idea of team meetings and was reluctant to call one. But the manager also acknowledged that someone needed to say something during the early season slump.
“I thought it was a good time. Again, I don’t want to call it a meeting, but more like a walk-through with the players after the game,” Mendoza said. Up. “
Time will tell if this non-meeting has any impact on the Mets’ season. So far, the Mets’ only unique data point is Thursday’s 6-5, 11-inning come-from-behind victory at Citizens Bank Park. This allowed the Mets to salvage one out of four games from the Phillies.
New York took the lead for good in the 11th inning when automatic runner Francisco Lindor scored on an RBI single by J.D. Martinez.
The Mets also took the lead in the first and eighth innings, but the Phillies came back in both innings to tie the score. The second of those was a save from Edwin Diaz, making it his third in the last four chances.
For the Mets, Pete Alonso hit a home run, and Jose Quintana held the Phillies to two runs in 5 1/3 innings, resulting in a no-decision.
