Jesse Winker is on the move again.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the New York Mets reached a trade agreement with the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. If he passes a medical exam, Winker will be moved to his fifth team in the past four seasons just before Tuesday’s trade deadline.
BREAKING: The New York Mets are acquiring outfielder Jesse Winker in a trade with the Washington Nationals, per ESPN sources.

The Nationals confirmed the deal the next morning, revealing that in exchange for Winker they were receiving 2022 sixth-round draft pick Tyler Stewart, a promising pitcher currently with a 3.96 ERA at Double-A. At 6-foot-9, Stewart is one of the tallest players in baseball.
Winker signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Nationals last offseason and is coming off his best season since being selected to the All-Star team in 2021. Winker has appeared in 100 games with Washington this season, batting .253/.372/.417 with 44 RBI and 11 home runs.
The Mets have a 55-49 record heading into Sunday’s series finale against the Atlanta Braves. They’ve won six of nine games since the All-Star break and are just half a game behind the Braves for second place in the NL East and half a game ahead of the other teams competing for the final NL wild-card spot.
The Nationals are 48-56 going into Sunday afternoon’s matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals and are seven games behind the Mets in the division standings.
The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday at 6pm ET.
