Karachi:

Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently heaped praise on the Afghanistan cricket team, labelling them the second-best team in Asia in white-ball cricket following their historic win over Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eights match.

Vaughan highlighted Afghanistan’s skilled players and Rashid Khan’s effective leadership, stressing that their strong performances are becoming expected rather than surprising.

“It is no longer a surprise to see Afghanistan perform as we have seen, with very good players and superb leadership from coach Rashid Khan,” he added.

Vaughan reiterated his views in a separate statement, asserting that Afghanistan had cemented their position as Asia’s second-ranked team in white-ball cricket.

Afghanistan defeated Australia for 127 runs in 19.2 overs during the match, defending a total of 148 for 6.

Key contributions included Naveen-ul-Haq’s 3-20 and Gulbuddin Naib’s 4-20, while Glenn Maxwell’s 59 was Australia’s only significant contribution to the innings.

Afghanistan’s opening pair Gurbaz (60 off 49) and Zadran (51 off 48) laid a strong foundation with their 118-run partnership.

Despite a late hat-trick from Pat Cummins, Afghanistan recorded a memorable win, their first in six matches against Australia.
