VETS4VETS Golf Tournament

The inaugural VETS4VETS golf tournament will be held on Sunday, June 23rd at 10am with a shotgun start at Greenhills Country Club.

Entry for the four-player Best Ball Scramble is $75 per person, and registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Teams must have a minimum handicap of 50 and only one team member may have a handicap of 10 or less.

First, second and third place will receive cash prizes, two mulligans can be purchased for $10 per person and lunch will also be provided.

Hole sponsorship costs $100, and prizes will be awarded for the longest drive, the shot closest to the pin and the longest putt.

All proceeds will help provide lifts, chairs, ramps, stair climbers, power wheelchairs and more to veterans and veterans’ families in Jackson County and the surrounding areas.

Wirt County Sports Hall of Fame Nominations Wanted

Nominations for the second term of the Wirt County Sports Hall of Fame will be accepted until Friday, June 28th.

The Class of 2024 inductees will include six people, but the first-term criteria requiring candidates to be from Wirt County no longer apply.

All 2024 nominees will remain on the automatic three-year rollover list before needing to be renominated to be eligible for a committee vote.

If you would like to nominate a former player, coach or person who has contributed to the community, please email the name, phone number, nominee’s name, phone number, email, nominee’s graduation year (if not from Wirt County please indicate so) and the reason they should be nominated to myboonelane@yahoo.com.

MOVTA Summer Tennis Junior Match Play

MOVTA will sponsor the Summer Tennis Junior Match Play, coached by Tyler Wright, for area middle school and high school players.

MOVTA’s ultimate goal is to promote friendly competition in the Mid-Ohio Valley and improve the quality of the game in the region. Events run from June 12th to July 31st (except July 3rd). High school games are from 3:00-4:30pm and middle school games are from 4:30-6:00pm. Registration opens on the first day. Events are held at City Park Tennis Courts. There is no fee to participate. Format will vary based on number of participants.

For more information, contact Dee Lantz at 304-485-3109. If there is enough interest, we will be hosting a USTA tournament in July that will award UTR points. The cost of this tournament is $30.

Williamstown Offensive Skills Basketball Camp

The 34th Annual Offensive Skills Basketball Camp will be held June 17-21 at Williamstown High School.

Campers in kindergarten through fifth grade will attend from 8 a.m. to noon. Campers in sixth through ninth grade will attend from 1 to 5 p.m. On the first day, campers should arrive 15 minutes early for registration. Cost is $100.
