ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano is not expected to be allowed to resume practice until the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp next month at the earliest, coach Sean says. McDermott said Tuesday.
McDermott said Milano has spent much of the past month training in Buffalo, adding that the eighth-year player is recovering well after sustaining a serious injury to his right leg in Week 5 of last season. . Milano was spotted watching practice from the sideline on the second day of Buffalo’s spring voluntary sessions.
“It’ll probably be closer to training camp until we see him there, maybe he practices before that, maybe he doesn’t,” McDermott said of the 2022 All-Pro player and centerpiece of the Bills’ defense, who played in the middle of his 2017 rookie season. “It’s just a matter of how he continues to progress at this point.”
Milano, one of the team’s most reliable tacklers, suffered a broken leg and other injuries in a 25-20 loss to Jacksonville on Oct. 8 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The injury required surgery.
Coach McDermott said starting right tackle Spencer Brown is feeling comfortable returning after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason.
The Bills have three weeks of voluntary practice remaining before mandatory training camp begins in mid-June. The team will then be off until July 24, when it begins training camp outside Rochester, New York.
