(Editor’s note: Frontier Conference press release.)

HELENA — Montana Tech has been named the recipient of the 2023-2024 Frontier Conference Bundy Memorial All-Sport Award. This is the second consecutive season and sixth time in school history that Montana Tech has won this award.

The Audigers finished in the top three in seven of eight sports this year, earning a total of 110 points. They won conference championships in volleyball, men’s basketball, men’s track and field, and women’s track and field.

“Receiving the Bundy Award is no small feat; it is a direct reflection of the resilient spirit of our student-athletes,” said Matt Stepan, Montana Tech Director of Athletics. “Our collective success this year has been a complete team effort, and I am proud to share this honor with the entire Montana Tech family, past and present.”

Carroll University won first place in men’s cross country, women’s cross country and women’s basketball, finishing second in the final standings with a score of 102.5.

Montana Western won the football championship and used that to take third place in the final standings with 78 points. Rocky Mountain ranked fourth with a score of 72.5, Providence ranked fifth with a score of 69, and MSU Northern ranked sixth with a score of 47.5.

Carroll leads Frontier with 17 Vandy All-Sports awards, followed by the Rockies with eight and Montana Tech and Montana Western with six. Former league member Lewis-Clark State University won four games and MSU Northern won two games.

The Bundy Award is presented annually to the conference school with the most points based on the completion of the regular season in football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s outdoor track.

The conference regular season champion receives 17 points, with points decreasing for each position after first place: second place receives 12 points, third place receives 10 points, fourth place receives nine points, and fifth place receives eight points. , 6th place will receive 7 points, 7th place will receive 6 points, and 3rd place will be awarded. 8th.

If there is a tie in the regular season standings, the points for that position are totaled and divided by the number of tied teams. As an example, if two teams are tied for 1st place, each he gets 14.5 points (17 plus 12 divided by 2 = 14.5), and the next team gets his 3rd place points.

The conference includes members from five athletic fields: Carroll College, MSU Northern, Montana Tech, Montana Western and Rocky Mountain. Providence participates in all sports except soccer.

Arizona Christian, University of Idaho, Eastern Oregon State, and Southern Oregon State are football-only conference members.

The Bundy Award was first presented after the 1982-83 season and was won by Western Montana College (now Montana Western).

The all-sports award is named in honor of the Frontier Conference’s first commissioner, George Bundy, his wife, Cheryl Ann, and their 8-year-old son, Michael, whom they adopted two weeks ago.

The family tragically died in a boating accident in the summer of 1982 when their 14-foot sailboat capsized in high winds at Canyon Ferry Reservoir.
