Kutch, which is larger in area than Denmark, is India’s third largest and largest constituency. It is reserved for scheduled caste candidates. After its inception in 1952, the first member of parliament of Kutch was Bawanji Khimji of the Congress. He was re-elected in his 1957 year.
The BJP first won the seat in 1989 and has held the seat seven times since 1996. BJP leader Pushdan Gadavi was elected from his constituency for four terms from 1996 to 2004.
In 2009, voters in the constituency sent Poonamben Jat of the Bharatiya Janata Party to the Lok Sabha, followed by Vinod Chavda in 2014. Chavda was re-elected in 2019.

Mr. Chavda, 45, a lawyer by profession, started his political career in the BJP Yuva Morcha (youth wing) in Kutch district, where he held various responsibilities for eight years. For three years, he was a member of the SC Morcha and the BJP in Kutch district.
Within a month of being elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014, he established Jan Sam Park, the first public interaction center of its kind in Bhuj, and also at Gandhidham, the economic and industrial hub of Kutch. MPLAD Funding Details
The Kutch MP provided 250 coolers to BSF personnel and 20 tricycles to senior citizens and persons with disabilities at the state transport bus depot in Kutch from MPLAD funds. He has been a major contributor under the government’s Swachhata Abhiyan and has distributed over 100 garbage cans under the cleanliness campaign at Bhuj bus stands, all schools in Anjar, government hospitals, temples, etc. He also used Congressional funds to purchase prosthetic limbs based on German technology, an emergency ambulance fleet, computers for his R.O. plant and school, and feed for his cattle. Also, during the pandemic, he donated Rs 1 billion from MPLAD funds to the Katchi Morbi government and Rs 1 billion to the health ministry.

His questions related to the Ministry of Defense, women and child development, law and justice, road transport and highways, tourism education, and the environment, among others. He asked questions related to “one country, one election” and foreign direct investment (FDI) in the defense sector.
He said that the central government should conduct some kind of study on the sharp curves, potholes, steep gradients, narrow roads, single lane or other accident-prone spots on national highways in Gujarat, as well as the need for side roads, flyovers and underpasses.
